Kuttings Korner 4 – The Thumper Request Show

To celebrate the remarkable GHMI Reunited website putting together the 2 people who attended the Wick show of the Chevy / Limelight tour, GHMI is dedicating this episode to those two legendary bands;
Heavy rock bands Chevy and Limelight take a “double header” tour this month including a special ‘Charles and Di’ night at Bradford Gatsbys. Dark Star will be appearing as special guests on selected nights and the entire schedule runs;
Aberdeen Victoria Hotel July 22
Wick Assembly Rooms 23
Grangemouth Town Hall 24
Retford Porterhouse 25
Chester Northgate Arena 26
Colwyn Bay Dixieland Show Bar 28
Bradford Gatsbys 29
Norwich St. Andrews Hall 30
Chadwell Heath Electric Stadium 31
Leeds Fforde Grene Hotel August 2
Hull Tiffanys 3
Bristol Granary 4
Lincoln Drill Hall 5
Kidderminster Town Hall 6.

Sadly, we’ve yet to find anyone who went to the Wombwell Reform show in Barnsley, but who knows. It may happen yet, here on GHMI Reunited.
Enjoy.
MP3 one – Limelight – Metal Man
MP3 two – Chevy – Chevy
As I was feeling left out of this Caithness love-athon, here’s a bonus AC/DC live track. Recorded live at Leith Theatre, Leith Town Hall, Leith on June 12th, 1976. Now, as I was still at primary school, I didn’t quite manage to get in, but I still get a wee thrill every time I walk past Leith Town Hall. Mrs H thinks it’s because we got wed there, so let’s keep it our little secret, eh?
MP3 three – AC/DC – TNT live Edinburgh ‘76

And if there was a good quality ‘76 recording of DC in full flight then it right there…thanks for posting this up.
Back on Limelight, when I first saw them opening for Saxon, what a hard time sections of the crowd gave them. Way beyond the normal indifference for support bands. The wave upon wave of abuse took its toll on the band eventually causing the drummer to leap off this stool and challenge the front row trolls to a set-to. There were no such antics at the Wick bash, polite venue that is was.

A proper drummer, that! If only we had more of that sort of behaviour, then perhaps rock and roll would not have become mainstream mush.
Incidentally, I have the full AC/Dc show from that date should you or any other regular commenter want a copy.
PS – my weekly rock profile show, which goes out tomorrow (sunday) at 8pm is an hour of Hawkwind! http://www.getreadytorockradio.com

It’s not often that you read the words “Wick” and “polite” in the same sentence, that’s what I’m saying.
That is one weird set of tour dates.

Mr. H – I did enjoy your diverse selection of Hawkwind goodies earlier this evening.
Thumper – such a Wick/Polite ’tis indeed rare bedfellows

I listened to your Hawkwind show as well. I have to say that I”m still not convinced about Hawkwind I have to say (though I liked Assault & Battery”). I think a problem is that the discography is a minefield.
You’re pretty good at that DJing lark, but I think you could learn a few things from local commercial radio: maybe you could have people who call in and say hello to “everyone who knows me” and then ask for Layla. Can you do that on Internet Radio?

Naturally, being an Eyetie shyster, you’re wrong about the mighty Hawkwind. I do agree, however, about the number of dodgy albums with the HW name on them.
However, fair play re people calling in. Will open up the lines this Sunday at 8pm, GMT, when I spend an hour playing music by Aerosmith and giving shout outs to Elmo. Word.
Feel free to call me tonight as well, when I’m rockin the blues at 8pm, GMT, on the super soaraway GRTR – http://getreadytorockradio.com/

Who are you doing this Sunday?
Mr H // July 24, 2009 at 11:25 am |
That’s a bit bloody personal! Who I’m doing is my business. Mebbe you can ask that sort of thing over in Wopatamia, but not round here.
Git.

Hey Lenka
Chevy’s 1980 album ‘The Taker’
Unfortunately the album is not available on CD as far as I know so your only hope would be a tracking down the vinyl secondhand or via download online
Try these sites for a listen – although I can’t guarantee their reliability

Maybe Mr H, Metal connoisseur and author of this blog has some more ideas for where you can hear the album
Good luck
